Climate Change and Gender

Gender inequality, multi-dimensional poverty and vulnerability are all strongly linked to climate change.  As the 3rd UN Millennium Development Goal, gender development is an important way to ensure adaptation to the increasingly severe impacts of climate change.  A disproportionate number of women have limited access to basic care and resources and climate change only exacerbates these conditions of poverty.  Climate change is affecting the agricultural sector, water resources, and human health.   Promoting gender equality and implementing relevant climate adaptation procedures helps reduce women’s vulnerability to these impacts.  Tune in to DARA’s latest podcast on climate change and gender based on the findings of our 2010 Climate Vulnerability Monitor.
